From the Editor

Le Corbusier, Swiss architect, painter, and designer is considered to be one of the most important visionaries of the 20th century.

He is often referred to as the “Father of the International Style.” This graphic novella, Le Corbusier Makes a Machine, depicts Le Corbusier’s move to Paris as a young man in order to create new architecture for a new society. Tracing the development of his design for Pavillon de L’Esprit Nouveau for the 1925 Paris International Exposition of Decorative Arts, this book illustrates the difficulties the architect faced when introducing new ideas and radical materials. His courage to erect Pavillon led to the creation of his ‘five points of architecture’ which were applied to the Villa Savoye, his architectural masterpiece. Villa Savoye was designated as a French Historic Monument in 1965 and in 2016 was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
